Ingredients

Main turkey
  • 1.5 lb lean ground turkey Use 90% or 93% for a lean, crumby texture.
  • 5 garlic cloves Minced.
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger Grated.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
Honey garlic sauce
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Mixed with water to make a slurry.
  • 2 tbsp water For the cornstarch slurry.
Serving
  • 1 sesame seeds For garnish.
  • 1 green onions Sliced for garnish.
  • 1 cooked rice White rice recommended.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Cook the turkey
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add lean ground turkey and cook until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles.
  2. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Sauce and coat
  1. Whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes, then pour over the turkey.
  2. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the turkey.
Serve
  1. Serve the sticky honey garlic turkey over cooked rice, and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

For the glossiest sauce, whisk the honey and soy mixture thoroughly before adding it to the skillet, then keep stirring while the cornstarch slurry simmers so the turkey stays coated. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; freeze the turkey mixture (up to 2 months) and reheat until hot, then serve over freshly cooked rice. For a lower-sodium option, use reduced-sodium soy sauce and keep the honey amount the same.
